Blackjack and Its Many Variants
Holly Fisher - June 1, 2020It’s a good idea to educate yourself with the many blackjack versions available before playing blackjack games online. Classic Blackjack is played with a single 52-card deck of cards. Players may only wager on one hand at a time and can double and divide their bets. Winning with a Blackjack pays out at 3:2, whereas winning with any other hand pays out at 1:1.
Eight normal decks of 52 cards are used in the Atlantic City blackjack version. A hand won with a Blackjack pays 3:2 while other winning hands pay 1:1, same like in Classic Blackjack games. Atlantic City Blackjack is an American hole game, which means the “hole” card (the second card given to the dealer) is dealt face down, unlike Classic “European” Blackjack. This card is not dealt in European Blackjack games until all of the players have completed their hands. There are also double and split choices in this game.
The rules of Vegas Strip and Downtown Black Jack are similar to those of Atlantic City Black Jack, with the exception that Vegas Strip uses four normal decks while Vegas Downtown uses two.
Other variations include Double Exposure blackjack, in which both of the dealer’s cards are dealt face up, Super Fun 21 with a bonus for certain combinations such as a diamond blackjack, High Limit Blackjack with a higher maximum wager, Spanish Blackjack with 8 unique packs (standard 52 card packs minus the 4 tens), and Multi-hand Blackjack with up to 5 hands at a time.
